Event number (1) Under 14 zone "1"

Started the 2007/08 season at the Fountain snooker club - Larne on Saturday 6th October '07. In the Final Gary Johnston from the host Larne club had a 3 Frame to 1 victory over Stephen Hall from West club, Belfast.       Our thanks to the proprietors: Mr Raymond Donnelly and Mr Colin Gavin.

     At the Green Baize snooker club--Armagh on Saturday 20th October '07 --- Semi-finals: Chris Cunningham (Rafters) defeated Jamie Martin (Fountain) 3 frames to 1 and Declan Brennan (Cue club) beat Hugh Murdock (Drumaness) by the same margin.-- Final: Declan Brennan had a 3 -- 1 victory over Chris Cunningham.   Our thanks to the Proprietor: Mr Jim Hawthorne.

At the Fountain snooker club - Antrim on Saturday 27th October '07,  Semi-finals: Stephen Hall (West club-Belfast) defeated Keith Hutchinson (Antrim) by 3 frames to nil and Calvin Brammeld (Antrim) lost 1-- 3 to Gary Johnston -- Larne club. This brought the same 2 players to the final as in the previous Under 14 event and again Gary Johnston emerged a 3 frames to 2 winner over Stephen Hall.     Our thanks to the proprietor: Mr Colin Bingham.

At the Bridge snooker club on Saturday 10th November 2007. From a good turn out, the 4 semi-finalists were: Hugh Murdock (Drumaness) v Chris Cunningham (Rafters) and Jamie Martin (Fountain) v Declan Brennan  (Cue club), these same players competed in the previous under 16 semi-finals on 20th Oct '07. J Martin had a 3 frames to 2 win over  D Brennan and C Cunningham beat H Murdock by the same margin. In the final both players produced a high standard of snooker and  Chris Cunningham had to pull out all the stops to gain his 4 frames to 2 victory over Jamie Martin. The presentations were made by Mr John Moore the Proprietor of the Bridge Club.  Con Egan J.D. thanked John Moore for all his help and hospitality.

Fountain snooker club -- Larne on Saturday 1st December '08 was the venue for the 2nd U/19 competition. All of the top players in this category were in participation, the 4 seed were: Connor Byrne-Antrim, Jamie Martin-Antrim, Chris Cunningham-Rafters & Declan Brennan- Newry, but only 2 of the seeded players made it through to the semi-final stages, C Byrne and C Cunningham.   J Martin lost to Dylan Murray (Rafters) in the 2nd round and D Brennan was beaten by Michael Smyth (Parkside) in the 3rd round. This produced the semi-final line-up as: C Byrne v C Cunningham and M Smyth v his club mate Gavin Doran (Parkside) - Byrne beat Cunningham by 3 frames to 2 and Smyth defeated Doran by 3 frames to nil.  In the final Michael Smyth played well to gain a 4 frames to 2 win over Connor Byrne.   Gary Johnston from the host club was the winner of the plate competition. Con Egan The Junior Director thanked the proprietors Mr Colin Gavin and Mr Raymond Donnelly for the use of their fine facilities.

                 All Ireland Champions---2007---2008 SEASON.

The Pot Black Snooker Club (Cookstown)  27th  & 28th  September 2008

 

   U-14 saw young Gary Johnson from Larne take the All Ireland Champion accolade beating another fine young

player Tom Hogan 4 - 3.

    U-16 seen the best young player probably in the country Declan Brennan from Cue Club in Newry beat his

counter part from ROI Jason Devaney 4-2 Declan's highest break was a lovely 68 cl in frame 3.

    U-19 saw another closely fought contest with high quality snooker but there could only be 1 winner and again

from Northern Ireland Michael Smyth from Parkside took the honours with a 4-3 victory.

   The evening session seen 2 fantastic snooker stars meet Jordan Brown and Vincent Muldoon in which we had to

surrender the Senior All Ireland Championship to Vincent who was the runaway victor 5 frames to 2 in which he

scored a lovely 103 break.

    The Billiards was a W/O as Eugene Hughes couldn't make the journey due to work commitments, so the Billiard

champion from Northern Ireland is Richard Comiskey from Keady.on Sunday 28th September

    U-18 seen 2 excellent young players meet, from Fountain Club (Antrim) Jamie Martin and Vincent Muldoon

 from ROI, fresh after his convincing victory over Jordan Brown from the same club as Jamie young Vicent

done the double beating Jamie 4-3 with 2 fantastic finishes frame 6 he had a 75 break and in the deciding frame

he scored a great 95 break to become double Champion.

   U-21 saw a great performace from  2 great young players, after his defeat the previous night to Vincent Muldoon,

Jordan Brown became the U-21 All Ireland Champion beating David Hogan 5-2 with a fine display of break

building Jordan rattled in a 67 break followed by a 49 two frames later, David put up a brave challenge with an

excellent 77 break.

   I would like to extend my gratitude to the Pot Black Snooker Club  for looking after all the players and officials

over the few days of the competition, the tables were in fantastic condition as was the club in general,

PJ Nolan the National Coach from the ROI thanked the players supporters and Officials for a great tournament and

said he was looking forward to next year hoping for revenge.

   A special mention must go out to Ivan and Celestine Loughran for all their help.

The members of Minnesota snooker club rooms - Ballymena were entertained to some skilful snooker on Saturday 8th December '07, by the young talented snooker enthusiasts of the Northern Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association. In the last (8) Chris Cunningham (Rafters) beat Calvin Brammeld (Antrim)[3-1], Gary Johnston (Larne) beat Hugh Murdock (Drumaness)[3-2], Jamie Martin (Antrim) beat Jason Gilmore from the host club [3-1] and Declan Brennan (Newry) beat William Lowes (Belfast)[3-0].       Semi -finals: C Cunningham defeated Gary Johnston by 3 frames to 1 and Declan Brennan defeated Jamie Martin by 3 frames to nil.  The final went to the 7th frame before Declan could claim a [4-3] victory over Chris. William Lowes was the plate winner. The proprietor Mr Declan Birt was thanked by Con Egan  the Junior Director.

This being the top age group of our junior events, brings together the cream of our young players, all keen to establish a high position on the u/21 ranking table, which can place them in a possible position for selection to representative selection at a later date. Parkside snooker club-Lurgan was the venue on Saturday 17th November '07. The 4 seeds were: Jonathan Kells (Bangor),   Connor Byrne (Antrim) Jamie Martin (Antrim) & Declan Brennan (Newry) but only 1 of the seeds managed to survive through to the semi-final stage, with the other 3 players coming from the host Parkside club: Michael Smyth v Anthony Gribbon and Aaron Doran v D Brennan, Smyth beat Gribbon 3-2 and Doran defeated Brennan by the same margin  3-2.    In the final Michael Smyth secured a victory over his club mate Aaron Doran 4 frames to nil.

The 15 year-old Snooker Star Jamie Martin from the Fountain Snooker Club - Antrim, one week after conquering the NI under 18 champions title now earns top ranking points at the under 16 junior event (3) in Drumgor Snooker Club - Sat 9th Feb '08.
